Julia Franz

SLV Seasonal Field Projects Coordinator

Office Phone:

Julia is VOC’s first Seasonal Field Projects Coordinator for the San Luis Valley. She is responsible for fostering hands-on outdoor stewardship efforts with the BLM, Rio Grande National Forest, and her local SLV community. She is excited to fill this position because she is very passionate about taking care of our environment and enjoys working with like-minded individuals to accomplish a mutual goal. She looks forward to facilitating programs with local agencies to accomplish meaningful change on our public lands.

Most recently, Julia worked at Sol Mountain Farm doing sustainable landscaping and farming in the San Luis Valley. She has multiple seasons of experience as a trail builder and youth environmental educator in Steamboat Springs. She also has been a mountain bike guide in Moab for several seasons, where she led guests on multiday trips and instructed day tours around the desert. Julia graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Natural Resources Conservation in 2016.

Julia grew up in Maryland spending a lot of time outside at summer camps and exploring the woods around her home. She moved out West in 2016 and learned about so many other ways to enjoy the outdoors. Now, she really enjoys mountain biking and rafting in the summer and uses that as a good excuse to travel around the Southwest to explore new areas. In the winter, Julia enjoys snowboarding and snow-birding to warmer weather. She also enjoys hanging out with her dog Adi, taking her on as many adventures as possible.
