During a 33-year career in education, Dr. Michael Wenk worked as an English language arts teacher, a baseball coach, a migrant educator, a curriculum specialist, a university methods instructor, an administrator, and an instructional coach. As a literacy leader in Colorado, Mike facilitated reform work that impacted schools across the state. With a PhD in Literacy from CU Boulder, Mike is a published writer and former journal editor. As co-founder and principal of the Watson Wenk Group (with his husband, Darrell), Mike specializes in community engagement, group facilitation, DEIA, and qualitative research. Past boards include the Second Wind Suicide Prevention Fund and the Whittier Neighborhood Association; currently, Mike is the coordinator of WhiTREEr, a group of neighbors in Denver’s historic Whittier who are empowered and motivated to plant and care for trees in their neighborhood. Mike moved to Colorado in 1992 to pursue outdoor hobbies that include mountain biking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, backpacking, and exploring our national parks.
