Put your leadership skills to work as a Crew Leader.
As a Crew Leader,
you'll deepen your connection to the VOC community by leading volunteers in completing trail or restoration projects.
You’ll also become part of a supportive team made up of VOC staff, mentors, and fellow leaders, where everyone works together to create a safe, fun, and productive day.

TAKE ON LEADERSHIPI'm new to VOC and excited to get more involved:
Step 1
Volunteer on 2–3 trail projects to get familiar with the work.
Step 2
Sign up for a Crew Leader for Trails Training (offered in spring/early summer).
Step 3
Serve as a Crew Leader Trainee on 2–3 projects with mentorship from an experienced Crew Leader.
Step 4
After your training, VOC staff will send you a list of upcoming training projects and give you priority access to register. If a training is full, just email ben@voc.org and we’ll help get you signed up.
Step 5
Lead your own crew with a mentor observing. Once you’re ready to lead independently, you’ll be certified and celebrated with a "blue hat" at your next project.
I’ve volunteered before and want to take on more leadership:
Step 1
Register for a Crew Leader Training that fits your schedule (offered in spring/early summer).
Step 2
Complete 2–3 projects as a Trainee while getting mentored.
Step 3
After your training, VOC staff will send you a list of upcoming training projects and give you priority access to register. If a project is full, just email ben@voc.org and we’ll help get you signed up.
Step 4
Lead your own crew with guidance. After completing this step, you'll earn your blue hat and official certification.

Why Is This Role Important
Crew Leaders are the heart of VOC projects.
With the support of VOC staff and guidance from highly experienced technical advisors, Crew Leaders lead small groups of volunteers, ensuring that work is completed safely and successfully. Crew Leaders are essential to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive experience for everyone on project day.
