Looking for a meaningful way to contribute that's less physically demanding? Step into the camp kitchen! As a Crew Chef Helper, you’ll support VOC’s certified Crew Chefs in prepping and serving meals on weekend projects. If you’re ready for more responsibility, you can become a full Crew Chef and create meal plans, prep gear, and lead the kitchen team. No matter what role you take on, you’ll always have support from staff and fellow volunteers.

Crew Chef Helper

Step 1

Sign up as a Crew Chef Helper for a weekend project.

Step 2

Meet up Friday afternoon at the project and connect with the Crew Chef (VOC staff will help coordinate).

Step 3

Help with kitchen setup and meal prep alongside a certified Crew Chef.

Step 4

Crew Chef

Step 1

Register for the Crew Chef Training Webinar (usually held in April).

Step 2

Volunteer as a Crew Chef Trainee on a project and receive mentoring from a certified Crew Chef.

Step 3

After each project, your mentor will complete a short evaluation and share feedback with you.

Step 4

Once you’re ready, take the lead on a weekend project and earn your Crew Chef certification!

Crew Chefs help fuel the heart of VOC projects. From breakfast burritos to hearty dinners, they make sure volunteers are well-fed and cared for, boosting morale, creating community, and keeping everyone energized for a great day outdoors.
