Groups & Schools

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) offers many ways for youth and school groups to get involved and give back to Colorado's natural resources!

You have the option of joining a scheduled public volunteer project, letting us customize a project designed just for your group or class, or having our expert staff visit your school for in-the-classroom education.

Join a public volunteer project. VOC offers more than 50 volunteer projects open to the public every year, with many locations and project types to choose from. We encourage you to join one of our public projects. View the volunteer project calendar to see a list of upcoming projects. Register your group for a project by selecting “organized group registration.” If you have a large group, it's best to call the office first at 303-715-1010 to see if we can accommodate your group size on a particular project.

Request a Youth SWAT (Stewardship with a Team) project. For groups of 20 people or more, VOC can often customize an outdoor stewardship and environmental education project, called a Youth SWAT (Stewardship with a Team). These projects are organized in partnership with land managers around the state, and can be one-time, half- or full-day, or ongoing with multiple volunteer days throughout the year. VOC will take care of all the planning and logistics for you. Please fill out a Youth SWAT request form if you are interested in this option.

Experience classroom education (Cairn in the Classroom). VOC will come to your classroom to speak about stewardship challenges in Colorado, how VOC is responding to these issues, and how students can get involved. This is an in-class educational experience that may be added before or after a class volunteer opportunity. Or, it may be done as a standalone stewardship education experience. For groups who are volunteering, this educational opportunity provides in-depth details about the science, and social and economic impacts of the work the group is to accomplish.
