Our volunteer project season runs from April through October and offers plenty of volunteering opportunities for individuals and groups that are fun, rewarding, and make an immediate difference for Colorado's outdoor places.

VOLUNTEERING AS AN INDIVIDUAL

Find your place in caring for Colorado.

Each of us has an important role to play in caring for Colorado, and there are numerous ways to do your part. Find Your Place with VOC.

ON PROJECTS

Sign up for one of our public volunteer projects, held April through October. There is no experience or long-term commitment required, so you can sign up for one project or many!

You can also volunteer on projects in one of our project support or trained leadership roles.

OUTSIDE OF PROJECTS

We sometimes need volunteers to help off the trail and/or in the office with tasks such as envelope stuffing, data entry, outreach events, and more.

VOLUNTEERING AS A YOUTH OR FAMILY (AGES 6+)

Find your family's place in caring for Colorado.

Volunteering with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) is a great way for your children and family to learn about our state's diverse outdoor places and how to care for them in a fun and unforgettable way!

YOUNG STEWARDS

These half-day volunteer projects are exclusively for families with children ages 6-12 and are designed to engage the entire family in hands-on outdoor education and stewardship tasks.

VOC Family Camping

FAMILY CAMPING

Our annual Family Camping projects are open to individuals as well as families with children ages 6+. While those ages 12+ work on the trail, ages 6-11 participate in fun and educational outdoor activities. 

Cairn Youth Program

CAIRN PROGRAM

This award-winning program engages a group of high school students each school year in monthly outdoor stewardship and leadership activities across the Front Range.

Many of our other volunteer projects are also open to youth. Simply use the "Youth Ages Allowed" filter at the top of our project calendar to find the perfect fit for the youngsters in your life.

Please note...

 

  • All youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • On single-day projects, youth ages 16-17 may volunteer without an adult but must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
  • For overnight projects, all youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All youth must be signed up by a parent or guardian on the volunteer platform. If you need assistance, please contact Abby.

We offer 50+ volunteer opportunities throughout the state each year from April - October. Please note each project varies in size; some projects may not be able to accommodate groups while others can accommodate groups up to 10 people.

For groups of at least 15 people, VOC can customize a Team Stewardship Day volunteer project based on your group's needs. Please note that these custom projects require a minimum contribution to address the additional coordination, logistics, and supplies needed.

BECOME A VOC LEADER

Behind every successful volunteer project is a team of dedicated volunteer leaders.

Whether it's guiding volunteers through project work, cooking and preparing meals, transporting tools, or even helping to design the trail itself, our volunteer leaders are critical to our success. ESSENTIAL VOLUNTEER LEADERS

Our volunteer projects wouldn't be possible without the help of our trained Volunteer Leaders. With a little training and determination, anyone can become a VOC Volunteer Leader! Learn more about the roles below or contact Ben to get started.


Not sure if you're ready for leadership? Try your hand as a Crew Chef Helper or Tool Manager Assistant first.

PROJECT SUPPORT ROLES

Project support volunteers are extremely helpful to have, and these positions allow you to put your other hobbies and skills to use! No training is required to help as a Volunteer Photographer, and you can volunteer exclusively in this position or combine it with your regular time on the trail.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP

Share your enthusiasm for protecting natural environments and working with youth by becoming a Cairn mentor for VOC's Cairn Program. In this hands-on role, you will help guide and empower high school students in becoming the next generation of outdoor stewardship leaders.
